Metadata forum

Merging approaches to the standardization of metadata

Due to a realization that a number of projects are currently addressing the issue of metadata standardization without coordination and because the benefits of working with standardized metadata, for example, the resulting option of reusing quality-assured data collection items, should be made known and accessible to as many researchers as possible, in the summer of 2011 the establishment of a forum called "Metadata and Linked Data" was proposed in the TMF and approved by the Board of Directors.

The forum was initiated from the BMBF-funded project regarding the conceptual design and implementation of national Metadata Repository and with the support from the IT infrastructure and quality management working group. The aim is to establish an open communication and exchange platform on the topics of "Metadata" and "Linked Data". The forum was inaugurated within the scope of the TMF workshop "Standards for Data and Metadata in Medical Research" on September 23, 2011. In addition to TMF members, the forum will also be accessible to external interested parties. On a broad scale the TMF will openly extend invitations to attend other forum events.
